Escuela La Maquinista
Public school for children and primary school located in the Bon Pastor neighborhood, district of St. Andreu, Barcelona.
La Maquinista School is a newly created public center that began the 2008-2009 academic year in provisional modules, the result of a claim by families for the lack of school in the area and school places in the district.
We are developing a project with the objective of improving social cohesion to the school environment through the competences and integral training of the individual to respond to current and future challenges. The coherence of the theoretical framework and practices provide strength to a project that grows with transparency and willingness to be part of the environment to contribute to social progress and coexistence.
The organization of the center as a learning community, the involvement in the environment, and in networks linked to pedagogical renewal and innovation, favor bi-directional interactions of mutual enrichment.
The pedagogical practices contemplate spaces of personalized itinerary and cooperative projects, making leadership for learning and self-assessment those fundamentals.
Concrete examples of the center’s practices:
- Classroom organization and project work.
- Learning spaces for early childhood education and initial cycle and proposals for medium and upper cycle work.
- Leadership for learning: awareness of the learning and evaluation process itself.
- Organization of the school as a learning community: mixed commissions formed by members of the different sectors of the educational community, who lead the center projects, coordinated by the management board.
- 360 view: midday space, work commissions, project + education and resource networks of the environment.
